Description

Boric acid (also known as boracic acid or ortoboric acid) is a mild acid of boron. It has a wide range of uses in different fields, and can be used as insecticide that is effective against various pests like ants, termites, cockroaches, and silverfish; as an antiseptic to treat various skin infections; as a cleaning agent, especially in households; as a flame retardant in various products, including textiles, plastics, and wood products; as a preservative in food and cosmetics; as a pH buffer in various chemical processes, including in the production of ceramics and glass; as a neutron absorber in nuclear power plants to control the nuclear reaction and prevent nuclear accidents.

Ultra-low sulfate boric acid (ULS) is a type of boric acid that has a very low concentration of sulfate ions. Sulfate ions can interfere with some industrial processes where boric acid is used, such as the production of semiconductors, electronic components, and other high-purity products.

Boric acid with ultra-low sulfate nuclear grade (ULS NR) is a specialized type of boric acid that is used in nuclear power plants. In nuclear power plants, boric acid is added to the coolant water as a neutron absorber to control the nuclear reaction and prevent nuclear accidents.
